Snapshots: my week in review Print Recipe Print Recipe

Sometimes you just need to get away from your surroundings.

My husband and I decided to be spontaneous and take a drive over to Seaside and Cannon Beach. He has been working around the clock and we’ve also been disagreeing on the small stuff, like a stroller! We find that when you’re out for an entire day and can’t run into the other room [me?? never...] you’re almost forced to talk about all the little things that you’ve been avoiding. We started doing this a year ago and it’s been awesome.

We plan to do this at least once a month before the baby gets here. The little getaway, the talking will happen much more than that.

I have a really hard time with breakfast. When it’s this warm, after half a bagel or some greek yogurt, I go for a fudgesickle… at 10am. No shame.

I caved. It got to be too hot and I couldn’t take it any longer. I put on a swimsuit [for the first time !!] and went to the pool. Crazy enough, I even made a friend! We hit it off and next thing, we were scheduling our next pool date. It’s a female, by the way. The belly is a big enough of an “I’M TAKEN” sign.

I recently started swimming and it’s felt ah-mazing. I mean, any time a pregnant woman can feel weightless, why wouldn’t you jump in a pool??

I can’t even count the number of boxes of [gluten-free] mac & cheese I’ve gone through. It seems to be the only thing I can stomach when it comes to dinner time these days.

Don’t worry, these hot dogs are from Whole Foods and have about 5 ingredients, nitrates not included.

I love our new kitchen.

I’ve been having a blast filming cooking demos for our health coaching group. I’m a total nerd, you almost can’t help but laugh when you watch them.

The Mr. worked late so it was popcorn and SATC re-runs for me.

I hear butter is good for the baby’s skin so there was no guilt in pouring it on.

Needless to say, it’s been a wonderful week! This weekend = lots of recipe testing, farmers market and visiting a friend and her new baby!

Hope you all had a great week and a super fabulous weekend!

I love all of your beautiful snapshots!  Getting away with your husband is so important, we try to do this and it makes a world of a difference in our conversations.  Love that you’re eating fudgesicles with no shame, you’re an inspiration :)

Looks like a great week!  So glad you went to the pool — makes hot summers all the more worth it!  :)

Butter is great for baby but also (and I would argue more importantly as you prepare for the fall) it is really important for your skin! Allows it to stretch in all the places you need it to… Now and in several months :)

I totally had popcorn for dinner last night, my husband was working. It’s a very suitable dinner, butter and all!

This is my first time commenting and just want to say quickly how much I love your blog and what an inspiration you are to me. I’m 26 wks along (we’re very close!!!) but expecting our third girl (we’re a little girl factory over here =) yet you and I have gone through so much of the same things over the last few months … same cravings included (even though you’re having a boy!) So I say no shame in 10 am fudgesicles or anything else you crave. I have 24 hr nausea and have come (reluctantly) to understand that most times you eat what you can, not what you want. =) I’m so glad you and your hubs got much needed alone time. It’s a real treasure but a necessity to keep the flame alive. Congrats on your beautiful new kitchen, adorable baby boy and many more blessings to keep coming. Thanks for having a blog too! It’s my blessing every week!

Fun! I grew up in Gearhart, OR ( just north of Seaside) and always love going home to the beach. Glad you got to spend that time together :)

Welcome to Portland! I know exactly where you are – the pool view gave it away! (Not to be creepy) My parents live up the street. It’s a great part of town, close to the city but still far enough away. I hope you love Portland – and that breakfast gets easier on you because there are so many great places to eat (and gluten free)!!  Enjoy the cooler, yet humid, days – and hit the nearby trails! Have a great day!

no way, that’s awesome [not creepy :) We’re enjoying the area & finally getting settled. Now that we’re in our place, we haven’t eaten out much, but when we were, we fell in love with all the restaurants & their gluten-free options! we’ve already walked a few of the trails, which are great! Thanks so much for the sweet comment!

Thanks for commenting and congratulations on your pregnancy!! You nailed it, “eat what you can, not what you want”. I’m a little jealous of all those pregnant women eating beautiful salads and vegetables and feel great 90% of the time. Maybe next time around… if not, oh well, as long as it’s a healthy baby, I’ll deal ;)
