Moving adventures from CA –> OR Print Recipe Print Recipe

This is what our Wednesday and Thursday of last week consisted of.

My father-in-law and husband must be pros at the game, Tetris. They JUST managed to get everything we own into this 20 foot Uhaul. Then a few days later, unloaded into a 20 foot storage unit.

This is not an area where I excel. Actually, that goes for moving in general.

Caffeine. These days, iced tea is my coffee.

Wednesday night we stayed at the Sir Francis Drake in San Francisco since my husband’s hotel was sold out. It actually worked out because then I was able to say goodbye to some friends – Erin, Caitlin, Jeanne, Irvin, Shauna, and  Melissa.  There are so many others I wish I could have seen one last time, but hopefully our paths will reconnect, sooner than later.

My sister, who lives in the city came to the hotel to say “goodbye”. We’re a close family, there’s no such thing as an actual goodbye.  The boys <my husband and his dad> stayed late to clean the apartment and by the time everyone was back at the hotel, we went for pizza delivery. Thank goodness for city options that offer gluten-free. At my pregnancy starvation point, it was the only thing that sounded good.

A healthy way to eat pizza, 1. Go for the veggie option 2. If you’re not gluten-free, ask for thin crust 3. Request “light on the cheese” 4. Eat slowly and drink lots of water – you’ll probably feel full after just a few slices.

This gave me anxiety.

but I obviously got over it.

At one point of our car trip, our center counsel looked like this.

Current pregnancy craving, cheese and crackers. I cannot get enough.

I made sure I had lots of snacks because fast food was not an option for me, unless if was ice cream or frozen yogurt. You just can’t assume any of those small town’s to have gluten-free options, unfortunately.

We arrived at this lovely motel at 1:45 am in Weed, California. I think we got a good 6 hours of sleep before hitting the road again. Between exhaustion and my snoogle <baby pillow>  I slept great.

In case you were wondering, the Mr. and I looked up to see if the name has any connection with the… plant. Nope, no connection.

We’d probably been on the road for a few hours before Ben was pulling off the freeway for me to get sick. It was awful, I cried.

I thought it was related to the pains I’d been having in my side, but my husband thought it was dehydration. Either way, I started to feel better that afternoon and was able to get fluids and some food down.

I just like to keep things exciting.

Next, we ended up at this deserted gas station because something was wrong with the trailer.

What’s wrong with this picture?

Yep, flat tire in the middle of the mountains.

Hey, it wouldn’t be an adventure without some excitement, right? Boy, is it easier to laugh at this now…

After all that, I hit the wall and ended up leaving the boys to unpack the Uhaul into storage and drove myself straight to the hotel. It was about 6pm and after a shower, I crawled right into bed. It was fantastic.

We’ll be living at the Hotel Monaco for awhile until we can find a place to live. This is just be bedroom, but they’ve set us up in a beautiful suite. That’s one benefit of having a husband work for in the hotel business.

I’m already making myself feel at home.

Often times I’ll remove the honor bar items from the fridge and fill it with some of my food. This was from the car ride – cheese, fruit, egg white salad and chocolate coconut water. Eventually I’ll add some yogurt, string cheese and prepared foods from either Whole Foods or other health food stores.

No, the vodka is not my personal stash, but in 5 months, it just might be.

To top the adventure off, we celebrated FIVE years of marriage on Saturday! I still can’t believe how fast time has flown and honestly, I couldn’t be happier. At that time we also agreed to wait 5 years before having children, which felt like FOREVER. Look at that, we made it and with a few months to spare!

This of course is another busy week as I head up to Seattle <early> Tuesday to prep for miss Bev, Jess & Jenna, we’re having a slumber party at my parents house! Then, it’s time for all the fun and excitement at BlogHer Food. If you’re going let me know, would love to meet you!

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend and happy Monday!

Bless your heart! I know exactly what you went through honey! My husband and I have moved a zillion times since we got married and moving pains are awful! One move, the wheel straps came off my jeep which we were carrying on the back of a 26 ft UHAUL! I was driving my husband’s car behind him and about had a heart attack when I saw the yellow straps flapping in the wind! We pulled over and I just lost it. The apartment we were moving into was closing soon, so I had to continue on, leaving my husband in a hotel parking lot in the middle of nowhere to wait on roadside assistance, praying all the while that he would get to our destination safely… and with my jeep still attached! Then a monsoon came and there was tons of construction on the road, and I seriously did NOT think I was going to make it! Thank the LORD we both made it safely! It’s funny now, but oh my, I have never been so happy to crawl into my bed and forget the whole thing ever happened ;)
Glad you are safe and have a great place to call home for a while!
