Chocolate Pudding for Health Nuts Print Recipe Print Recipe

Wanna guess what’s in here? Go ahead, guess.

Okay okay, I’ll give you a hint… It’s GREEN and to put in on your salads.

DING DING!! I made chocolate pudding with AVOCADOS!!

You think I’m totally gross now, don’t you?

Well, this is just what happens when a food blogger has a ton of ripe avocados and decides to make a chocolate dessert for Valentines Day Crazy things, like Chocolate Avocado Pudding happen.

You guys, with the dates and the sprinkle of sea salt, you’d NEVER KNOW there was avocado in it.

aaaaaand there’s no cooking involved.

So, we friends again?

Before you go deleting me off your RSS feed, check out some of the health benefits, you might be surprised.

  • Promotes heart health
  • Prevents inflammation
  • Increases the absorption of nutrients when eaten with avocados
  • Regulates blood sugar levels
  • Fights cancer

I could go on, but you the point. Avocados are super healthy for you so why not add them to your dessert?

For this, the avocados make for a creaminess base and then the chocolate and dates [or honey] add the sweetness. It totally rocked my world.

Want more chocolate?

I’ve teamed up with oh so lovely Amie from The Healthy Apple to share some chocolatey desserts, without the gluten just in time for Valentines day! Now, go check out The Healthy Apple and see what she made for ya!

I’ve been making this for years and when I bring it to parties and tell people it’s chocolate mousse, no one ever believes me that it’s raw, vegan, and made with avocados.  They think it’s a butter and cream special (which I have plenty of those) but the choc mousse/pudding with avos is always fun!

  • Sreebindu

    that looks yumm… yumm…

  • Shirin Amchin

I don’t usually comment on recipes if I haven’t tried them yet, but WOW this looks incredible! I’m going to have to make this for myself before I get my wisdom teeth out next week!  And NO, I WON’T be sharing with my special valentine!!

  • Katrina @ Warm Vanilla Sugar

Lisa, I just wanted to let you know how much I love your blog! I’ve read through every single post in just over a week and my list of recipes to try is gigantic! It’s only been within the past 6 months that I’ve truly discovered how healthy, whole foods can affect my well-being. I’ve been exercising and gradually adapting a healthy eating plan for myself and I can honestly say that I have never felt better. I’m not gluten-free and don’t have food allergies, but the health factor and beauty of your recipes has totally hit home for me. My mom always says that we eat with our eyes first and that is exactly what I’ve been doing on your sight all week. For the first time ever, I’m 100% happy and confident within my own body and mind and it feels amazing! Thanks for making such a wonderful contribution to the world of food blogging!

  • Jacy

I’ve made something like this several times, and my mom and I both LOVE it!  Avocados are a delightful food, aren’t they?  Oh, and I love the bowl you used 🙂

  • Anonymous

Haha. I don’t need any convincing! This sounds even better than regular chocolate pudding to me. And I love the little bowl – I totally agree about eating something sweet every day. Sweet doesn’t have to mean horrible for you, and you seem to have a talent for creating sweets with nutritional value. Now I just need to wait for my next round of avocados to ripen. 🙂 Can’t wait to try this!

  • Heidi @ Food Doodles

I’ve seen avocado in chocolate pudding before, but I’ve actually never tried it.  It’s been on my list for a while now.  I have ripe avocados on the counter right now, I think I’ll try it this afternoon with my kids 😀

A very small study in England in 2010 found that adding avocado to your diet reduced your triglycerides and cholesterol. The study used 1 avocado per day, but I’ve found that one half seems to work.
