I will not be touching any of these items for the next THREE days.

You see, today is DAY 1 of a three day cleanse.  Excuse me while I change into my grumpy pants <– that’s what my husband call me.

and since it’s 12 days of Holiday Sweet Treats, I thought this would be most appropriate as I’m also trying to avoid any thoughts about cookies, chocolate, cupcakes, brownies, ice cream, pies.

Okay, this is torture. I need to stop talking. typing.

Anyways, if you’re like me and love protein shakes, you’d consider this a “Sweet Treat” as well. I’m weird, but it’s honestly like dessert to me.

 

 

When I’m not cleansing, this is one of my favorite smoothies.

I make this with spinach 2-3x/week for breakfast or a mid-day snack and about 3x without spinach as a pre workout drink.

Don’t laugh, but my blender is broken. and I’m still using it.

I just have to add extra liquid [almost a FULL CUP] because leaks out the bottom. I can’t [not even a day] live without it and sadly, I can’t afford a new one.  However, if you know of any good deals or inexpensive, but amazing blenders, please oh please share.

Pumpkin Pie Protein Shake

PRINT Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 cup fresh spinach, packed
  • 1-2 cups almond milk, unsweetened vanilla  &/or water
  • **1 scoop of protein – vanilla or chocolate
  • 1 large spoonful [or 1/4 cup] pumpkin puree
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • sweetener of choice – 5-8 drops of liquid Stevia OR 1 tablespoon of honey or agave.
  • 5-10 ice cubes

Directions

Add all the ingredients into a blender and blend until ice is completely everything is blended into a smoothie.

Use more or less water or milk depending on desired consistency.

Serves 1

    Have you ever tried a magic bullet? We use them for smoothies – we’re on #2, but the first one lasted about 3 years, used twice a day. 20% off coupon at Bed Bath and Beyond isn’t a bad deal, and you can drink the smoothie straight out of the blending cup.

    I use a frozen ripe banana in my smoothies instead of ice cubes and sweetener. I find that ice cubes dilute my smoothies too much and if the banana you use is ripe enough then there’s no need for additional sweetener. Just a suggestion 🙂

    I did a 3 week cleanse recently-no sweeteners(except a tsp of honey a day), no alcohol, no snacking. Loved it after the first 24 hours!

    Oster brand blenders are pretty inexpensive and, in my experience, work great. My mom has had hers for YEARS. I think they start at around $27.
    I am still way too nervous to try greens in a smoothie! I’m such a chicken! Plus, smoothies never seem to fill me up. I have to chew something for the fullness to register.
