Recipe for the Perfect cup of hot chocolate
Ingredients
- 2 Tbsp {good quality} unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 Tbsp sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- small pinch of salt
- 2 Tbsp finely chopped quality dark chocolate (65-70%)
- 2 cups whole milk (substitute Soy or Almond milk if you prefer)
- {adult version} splash of peppermint schnapps, optional
Directions
Before you turn on the stove top, combine the cocoa powder, sugar, vanilla, salt, and chopped chocolate in a saucepan. Whisk in a few Tablespoons of the milk to make a paste. Turn the heat to medium, stirring until it begins to warm.
Whisk in the rest of the milk. Continue whisking until the chocolate has fully melted. Heat the hot chocolate until it is steaming, but be sure it doesn’t simmer.
Pour the hot chocolate into mugs, drop in the marshmallow(s) or top off with a dollop of whipped cream. Need a kick? Stir in the peppermint schnapps or liquor of your choice. Enjoy!
